Data logger is any device that can be used to store data. This includes many data acquisition devices such as plug-in boards or serial communication systems which use a computer as a real time data recording system. However, most instrument manufacturers consider a data logger a stand-alone device that can read various types of electrical signals and store the data in internal memory for later download to a computer.
For me, data logger is a device with sensor that can assist in the recording of result, making results tables and plotting graphs from the experiment. It will gives convenience to the student to get accurate data for make comparison of the manipulated variable. Student also will see clearly overall of the experiment by comparing of the graph or the result from the table. Using of data logger will reduce human error that probably make change to the result of the experiment.
Data logger also can be carried out 24 hours a day, and 365 days of the year. For the experiment that require long time to see the reaction it is really need this applications to do. The range of data taken per time from the experiment is very small. So the data will give accurate value.
But data logger that require sensor to detect the stimulus always having a similar problem where the sensor can’t function effectively. The sensor can’t detect the stimulus that pass through of it. It will happen when the sensor is not maintained well. The function also reduce when the sensor is not service for a long time and this will lead to the change of the result for that experiment.
In my conclusion, data logger will really help student to get the best result from the experiment. But as a suggestion, lab assistant that conduct the laboratory has to maintain that sensor for maintain the function to be used for a long time.
